About Us

Optimart is a family business, that strives to meet their customers desires and needs, when it
comes to glasses, contact lenses and other optical and optometry needs. Our company has
been serving the community since 1991 with the name Optimart. The journey begins with
Bright Optical this was the pioneer to Optimart, the company was established in 1987, where
the proprietor Gunaranjan Gunabalasingam, sold glasses from door to door till the successor
Optimart opened its first branch in 1991 on Main and Danforth, the proprietors Gunaranjan
Gunabalasingam and Mano Gunaranjan, took a challenge and started the next chapter of their
life. With the success of their first shop, they opened up their second store in 1998 on Markham
and Eglinton, this shop was our first shop with a 1-hour service lab that was designed to give
glasses to our patients in 1 hour or less. Expanding was the next step, the next store we opened
up in 2003 and was position on Markham and 14 th to help serve our demography in the north.
As times were changing so were we, 2009 came and we relocated our Markham and 14 th store
to Markham and steels. this shop was our biggest showroom with our highest selection of
brands to ensure everyone get the best products. In 2018 one of our biggest obstacles
challenged us with the passing of our CEO, but we raised up to the challenge and we ready to
continue his legacy. In 2020 covid was our next set back, but we are always looking for a
challenge, so we stayed opened, to ensure our customer received all their glasses needs. In
2022 we opened our first store in Ajax to serve the community in the East better. Throughout
our success as a corporation, we would not be able to achieve our goal without our dearest
customers. We are authorized sellers of all of our brand and we accept most insurance
companies.
